Intimate Micro Wedding at Events at Ethereal in Woodstock, IL

60-something degrees in March in the midwest. I've been around long enough to know — you take that and you don't ask questions.

Matt and Nina got married on March 20th, 2026, surrounded by the exact people who've shown up for them. That's it. That's the whole guest list — a small circle of people who earned those seats. It was an intimate micro wedding at Events at Ethereal in downtown Woodstock, Illinois, followed by dinner with a few more of their favorites down at The Lodge Geneva National in Lake Geneva, WI. Two locations. One completely intentional day.

I tried to write an Instagram caption about this nine times and kept dissolving into tears — which honestly tells you everything.

Ceremony at Events at Ethereal in Woodstock, Illinois

If you haven't been inside Ethereal Confections, you should fix that immediately. Exposed brick, warm wood, big windows, and the faint smell of chocolate in the air. It's one of those spaces that doesn't need much — it just is.

Their micro wedding ceremony fit right in.

Matt's best man Vinny officiated — seven years of friendship distilled into a few minutes that wrecked everyone in the room in the best possible way. Seven years & we're finally here. Hank attended in a tuxedo bandana and acted like he co-officiated.

Nina's gown was sleek and structured with detachable lace sleeves that caught the light just right. Matt in black and white, timeless. Vintage typewriter on the detail table with "MR & MRS BYRNE" threaded through the carriage. Pearl-dotted veil. White blooms, textured greenery. Nothing overdone. Everything chosen on purpose.

That intentionality — it was everywhere.

What Woodstock Gave Us for Portraits

Events at Ethereal is one of my favorite venues in Northern Illinois to document because the whole building just works — the brick, the staircase, the window light. We didn't have to go far for portraits that felt editorial and completely them.

Hank showed up in every frame he possibly could.

Dinner at The Lodge Geneva National

After the ceremony, the celebration grew — just a little — for dinner at The Lodge at Geneva National in Lake Geneva, WI. Family had traveled from Tennessee and New York. The neighborhood gang showed up. It stopped feeling like a reception and started feeling like the best table in your favorite restaurant reserved for the people who matter most.

That's what a micro wedding dinner looks like when it's done right.

Is a Micro Wedding at Ethereal or The Lodge Right for You?

If you're planning an intimate ceremony in Woodstock, IL or a small wedding dinner near Lake Geneva, WI — this two-location combo is one worth looking at closely.

Events at Ethereal (eventsatethereal.com) holds up to around 80 guests and sits in the heart of downtown Woodstock. The Lodge at Geneva National (destinationgn.com) brings resort-level food and views to a gathering that still feels personal. March shoulder-season? Honestly? Do it. The light was incredible.

Matt & Nina — thank you.

For letting me (and the hubs) into this one. For building a day that was so specifically you that there was nothing to stage, nothing to manage — just a story unfolding exactly how it was supposed to.

Officially: the Byrnes are married. And per Matt, Nina is now Irish. 😂

If you're planning a micro wedding at Events at Ethereal in Woodstock, an intimate elopement in Northern Illinois, or a small wedding dinner near Lake Geneva — I'd love to be the one paying attention.
